What a Day in the Life of a Supermodel Looks Like

A supermodel’s life isn’t all glitz and glamour. There are meetings, workouts and constant fittings to attend to.
A model’s routine will differ each day depending on what work they have on. But while no two days are the same, they do have certain things that need sticking to.
Read on to find out what a day in the life of a supermodel looks like.
Morning
Models tend to be early risers because their days are packed with events. An average wake-up time can be around 6:30am – 7am, depending on the day. They may need to get up earlier if they have work. Supermodel Georgia Fowler gets up at 5am, or later on weekends. Kendall Jenner says she gets up at 6:30am, while her friend Gigi Hadid gets up closer to 7am.
Breakfast time can differ again depending on a model’s schedule. If a model likes to work out in the morning, they may want a small snack pre-workout and have a larger breakfast afterwards. Many models like to have a protein shake before or after a workout to help their muscles to repair.
A model’s average healthy breakfast can look like the following:
– Avocado on toast
– Oatmeal
– Smoothie
– Greek yogurt and fruit
– Eggs with avocado and spinach
– Grapefruit with a sprinkle of cinnamon
Some models also claim to take a shot of apple cider vinegar in the morning as this is claimed to help improve the digestive system, stabilise blood sugars and help you feel full.
Work Days
On a work day, a model must still try to squeeze in a workout and try to eat well. A gym or home workout session almost always features as part of a model’s day-to-day activities. Models also tend to carry around healthy snacks or pre-made meals so they can keep their diets on track regardless of where they are.
Models need to attend lots of auditions and casting calls to find work. This means they can spend a lot of their days jumping on and off the subway or in and out of taxis to get to the required destination.
They may need to visit their agency to sign a contract, or see a brand for a clothes fitting. They may also need to see a makeup artist or hairstylist to try out a certain look for an upcoming job. Photographers and top designers also sometimes like to meet model’s pre-shoot to talk about their vision and goals.
It’s not uncommon for a model to get home quite late on a workday, so many claim to enjoy eating out or grabbing a healthy takeaway for dinner.
Rest Days
Models make the most of their days off, and many like to work out (even on the weekends). Yoga is a popular workout, as is pilates. Most top models have a personal trainer to help cater the exercises to their unique body types and goals.
Other popular exercises include the following:
– Spinning
– Running
– HIIT
– Weight
– Resistance training
– Barre class
The amount a model works out also varies. Some claim to work out 7 days a week, sometimes twice a day leading up to a runway show like Paris Fashion Week or important photo shoot. Others work between 3 to 5 days a week.
Models also like to book in for professional facialists and masseuses to help ease their sore muscles and keep their postures in check.
Rest days are just as important as workout days. Muscles can only repair when we rest and allow them to heal; you can cause yourself damage or even make yourself ill if you don’t give yourself some time off.
On average, it is recommended we do about 150 minutes of cardio a week and around 3 weight training or resistance training sessions to help keep muscles strong. Our bodies are all different and will suit different things; it’s worth talking to a nutritionist or a personal trainer if you can for a personalised plan.
Do Models Eat Pizza?
Models are only human like the rest of us, and they enjoy the odd treat once in a while too. Bella Hadid claims to love cheeseburgers, while Taylor Hill says she is a huge fan of Chinese food.
There are plenty of articles about the Victoria’s Secret Models splurging on food after a show; there are photos of the group enjoying a post-runway slice of pizza.
High-fat foods should not be demonised; it’s important to relax your diet every so often and enjoy the foods you love. Junk food should be enjoyed as part of an overall healthy, balanced lifestyle.
Water
Models drink lots of water as it has many benefits:
– It stops water retention and subsequent bloating
– It flushes out toxins
– It keeps skin clear, hydrated and healthy
– It helps the body function properly
Models can often be seen carrying water bottles around in their model bag; it’s part of a model’s necessities.
Many models aim to drink around 2 litres of water a day. It is actually possible to overdrink, so don’t overdo it!
Some models like to decrease the amount of water they drink before a show to help the skin contract to show off their muscles more. However, you should never do this unless supervised by a professional nutritionist or doctor.
Bedtime
A model’s bedtime seems to range depending on how early they rise, how busy their day was and what time they have to get up the following day. Generally, models tend to go to bed between 9pm – 11pm.
Models like to get a decent amount of sleep as sleep is vital for our physical and mental health, as well as our appearance and energy levels. It’s even more important if you work long days as you need the time to recuperate.
It is recommended we get between 6 and 8 hours of sleep each night. All top models appear to aim for this as they understand the importance of rest and recovery.
